June 18–To the Arctic Circle and Coldfoot, Part 1

Our van trip started about 8:30 a.m. with 4 couples.  Our driver/guide was a school teacher, was born and raised in Alaska.
Our first stop was Joy, AK.  The couple there had 5 children and adopted 18.  Just a funky little shop.

I like seeing how they use these burls

Let the Dalton Highway begin…one speed limit sign for the entire road….50 mph for the next 416 miles.

This bird made a home in one of the pipeline access road gates

Pipeline everywhere

Crossing the Yukon Bridge on the only bridge that does

The ‘rest stop’

Probably my favorite shot of the pipeline but through a window

Saw a moose

Finger Mountain stop for lunch

The white is cotton grass

Showing us how far the rebar went into the ground before it hit frozen ground…..rebar was cold to the touch

The road goes on and on

LeRoy crosses the Arctic Circle

A treat of brownie and whip cream….but I forgot the funny name he gave it
